Who am I? What am I doing here?

My name is Savannah, and I am on a mission. I wish to do what I can to deconstruct the oppression I see and personally experience in the U.S. The best way I can do that is by using the best skill I have -- writing.

I earned a 'BA in journalism and political science from Indiana University - Bloomington in 2009. I also have some grad school experience in information science. I know some things, but not everything (I dropped out of grad school, after all).

In my past life, I was a freelance newspaper reporter and edited various publications. Nowadays, I work odd jobs while writing on Medium. I was never able to gain steady employment because of mental health issues and because I'm a millenial. We don't do steady employment.

I don't have all the answers, and I'm constantly learning. But I promise to share what I know and only what I know. I also promise to listen, unless you're a troll or if you just came to spew nonsense and personal attacks.

You might see personal essays from time to time. There are times when I like talking about myself. This is the Internet. Everybody likes talking about themselves. In some of my personal essays, I might talk about mental health. I am fairly open about the fact I have bipolar II, complex PTSD, and ADHD. I wish to break the stigma of these conditions by writing about them from a personal perspective.

Other than writing, I enjoy listening to music, reading, and playing video games. Truthfully, I'm kind of a boring person. If you have any hobby recommendations (that don't involve crocheting, I'm horrible at that), let me know.

I am also one of the leaders of a group called Writers and Editors of Color (WEOC). You can learn more about us here: https://www.writersandeditorsofcolor.com/

Thank you for reading!
